Ron Chamney came to Salt Spring in 2009 on a one-year contract as Trail Coordinator, based on a Parks and Recreation decision to act on a top priority identified by residents: developing and improving hiking trails on Salt Spring Island.

Ron arrived after a career with Calgary Firefighters, with expertise in Wildland Urban Interface/hazard assessment and community safety. He was also involved in the development of Calgary’s FireSmart Program.

Ron served as a member of the Salt Spring Island Fire Protection District Board of Trustees from 2010 to 2015.
