Subject: Peter Arnell Park
I am hoping that you can tell me the origin of the name "Peter Arnell Park"' I had a relative, Peter Arnell, that emigrated from England to Canada and was killed there. I am wondering if there is any connection.
Regards,
John Arnell
Good evening,John,
If you email one of our local land surveyors,Wolfe-Milner Land Surveying Inc
at wmlsinc@telus.net I am sure they could help you. I am pretty sure Peter Arnell was a surveyor when he was accidently shot while surveying. I cannot remember the year but there would have been coverage in the Victoria daily papers at the time. Hopefully some of the others in the Archives will be more helpful.
Sincerely,
Sue Mouat
Peter Arnell was a surveyor who died accidentally on Galiano. Barb DuMoulin and I went for a hike about 3 weeks ago and at the head of Peter Arnell Park is a monument in his memory.
It was some time in the late '60's or early 70's because I remember thinking I wasn't around here in those years so of course didn't remember the accident. Anyone else?
Susan
I know that Peter and his wife had a son called Timmy (Timothy) born in 1966 +/-. Perhaps you could find him through birth record etc. They lived on Rainbow Road on the site that is now the High School and moved to Saskatchewan in the mid 70's

Everyone:
Thanks to your assistance by providing a couple of leads I think I have confirmed that the Peter Arnell killed on Galiano Island is, indeed, my relative -second cousin. I found his death record - died October 22, 1968, North Galiano Island. Full name Peter Hall Arnell (his mother was Elizabeth, nee Hall). His birth date is shown as "about 1931" - he was actually born in late 1930.
Now all I have to do is track down his son!
Regards,
John Arnell
