Spotts, Fielding William
8x10 photograph of Fielding William Spotts.
Fielding William Spotts, the second son of Fielding Spotts and his wife Julie Ann. The parents pre-empted Lot 6, Range 2 on Salt Spring in 1859. They had abandoned the pre-emption well before 25 May 1860, according to a letter from Henry W. Robinson requesting permission to take over the pre-emption.
Fielding had a place on Pioneer St, Victoria, from Feb. 1859, and worked as a cooper nearby on Herald St. On 1 November 1860 he purchased 100 acres in "South Saanich" and later moved his family there after building a log cabin.
The photo appeared in "The Province" newspaper on 29 May 1935 p.7 accompanying an interview with Fielding William, then aged 75.
