Premier Bennett Taken For Ride
Premier W.A.C.Bennett was taken for a ride last Saturday afternoon. Mr. Bennett enjoyed a drive with Mrs. Warren Hastings in her horse and buggy making an old-fashioned but pleasant picture as they drove down the wooded road, along the Upper Ganges Road. Mrs. Hastings reported the Premier had enjoyed his drive and that he was even more convinced of the importance of keeping our island charm as much as possible as it is at present.
The buggy used was once owned by an early island family and is believed to be well over 65 years old. It is still in good condition although a present grandfather claims he used it in his earlier day for ‘sparking’.
The horse is one of Mrs. Hastings’ favourites and is a smart looking well cared for animal even though he is getting on in years, as is the buggy. It was an excellent day for a drive and several motorists passing did a ‘double take’ to see Mr. Bennett in a buggy. One was heard to remark, “I must be seeing things, but wasn’t that Premier Bennett back there about a mile!”
